Kura Kura is Indonesian for Turtle, a tourism and creative community island project strategically located in the capital of Bali, Denpasar in South Bali. The island located in Serangan is popularly dubbed as the “Turtle Island”, a tribute to Turtle Island legacy as the home of turtles and, now, the site of turtle conservation by the villagers. Interestingly, the shape of the island itself is likened to the outline of a praying Hanuman, the mythical braveheart monkey-God in the ancient Hindu epic of Ramayana. PT. Bali Turtle Island Development, the master developer of Kura Kura Bali project, has since 2003 launched an island-wide greening programme, turning aridity into greeneries, providing a fresh habitat for a diversity of birds and aquatic animals.
